Mentors
Mentor Commitment:
  • Work together with the AFCEA STEM team to ensure the successful planning and implementation of the ARC 2019 and beyond
  • Participate in promotion and outreach to create awareness about the ARC locally and regionally
  • Donate your time, resources, and/or services
  • Participate as a mentor during the ARC and provide guidance to the teams throughout the challenge season
  • Work with one or more teams to encourage creativity in problem solving
  • Guide the student team members in understanding the problem space for the challenge
  • Lead and/or train the student team members and mentor in specific technical areas related to the challenge:
  • NodeBot assembly
  • Wireless networking and configuration
  • Node.js scripting
  • Computer setup and configuration
  • Interested in mentoring

    Volunteers

    Volunteers are required to attend event day. The AFCEA STEM team is currently accepting volunteers for the following positions:
    Judges
    Responsibilities:
  • Follow judging guidelines
  • Exercise impartiality in evaluating team performance
  • Select winners and provide information to ARC officials

  • Score keepers
    Responsibilities:
  • Follow scoring guidelines
  • Provide scores to judges

  • Coaches (challenge team leads)
    Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance to the assigned team on challenge day
  • Follow guidelines on how to direct, interact, and respond to team issues on challenge day as defined in 'team lead' rules

    Challenge day sign-in
    Responsibilities:
  • Available at the registration booth/table from 8:15-9:15 am
  • Confirm team sign in and pre-registration as teams arrive
  • Hand out challenge day schedule to registered teams
  • Hand out challenge day rules and rubrics to team leads
  • Hand out team t-shirts to registered teams
  • Answer questions pertaining to challenge day, registration, schedule, location, etc.
  • Direct teams to the appropriate room/location

  • Challenge day setup
    Responsibilities:
  • Available for setting up tables, equipment, AV, etc.
  • Setup and assign NodeBot kits to teams/team leads (will be provided on challenge day)
  • Hand out mentor and team lead engagement rules
  • Hand out challenge day schedule
  • Answer questions pertaining to challenge day
  • Direct teams to the appropriate room/location
  • Collect NodeBot kits from teams at the conclusion of the challenge

  • Post challenge tear down
    Responsibilities:
  • Be present from 4:00-5:00 pm Available for removing tables, equipment, AV, etc.
  • Responsible for cleaning and clearing the venue
  • Check venue to make sure everyone has departed
  • Coordinate sign off with venue official
